About Us

Our Mission

Our mission is to advocate for and protect the reproductive rights of women in Ebonyi State and Nigeria at large. We strive to empower women through education, support, and advocacy, ensuring they have the knowledge and resources to make informed decisions about their reproductive health.

Our Vision

To build a just, inclusive, and empowered Ebonyi State where every woman—regardless of background or location—has full access to her reproductive rights, quality healthcare, and the freedom to make informed decisions about her body and future. We envision communities where women are valued, protected, and supported, leading to healthier families, stronger communities, and a more equitable society for all.

Inclusion – Ensuring that all women, regardless of background, have access to reproductive healthcare and legal protection.

Founder’s Story

The journey to founding Advocacy for the Protection of the Reproductive Rights of Women in Nigeria was born from my own deeply personal experiences with reproductive health. In 2019, I lost my first child in a stillbirth, which was caused by gross medical negligence. Despite being induced, there were no medical professionals to monitor the progression of my labor, and after twelve hours of intense pain, I faced the devastating loss of my child. The lack of care and attention led me to question the reliability of the healthcare system.

Don’t bother typing “lorem ipsum” into Google translate. If you already tried, you may have gotten anything from “NATO” to “China”, depending on how you capitalized the letters. The bizarre translation was fodder for conspiracy theories, but Google has since updated its “lorem ipsum” translation to, boringly enough, “lorem ipsum”.

Sadly, in 2022, I experienced another loss—a uterine rupture during my second pregnancy, which almost claimed my life. It was these harrowing experiences that ignited my resolve to make a difference for women facing similar, and often worse, challenges.

I began to ask myself: If I, with my relative access to healthcare, could go through such suffering, what about women in rural areas? What are their realities, and how do they cope with a system that seems to ignore their needs? This question became the driving force behind my journey into understanding the harsh truths that rural women face—issues like female genital mutilation, forced sterilizations, and a host of harmful cultural practices that not only endanger their lives but also contribute to the high maternal mortality rates prevalent in these areas.

It was this deep, personal exploration into the challenges that rural women face that led me to establish this NGO—to fight for the reproductive rights of women across Nigeria, ensuring that no woman has to endure such pain and loss in silence. Advocacy for the Protection of the Reproductive Rights of Women in Nigeria is not just a mission, but a passion fueled by the desire to change the reality for countless women in Nigeria, particularly in rural communities.
