About Us
Founder’s Story
The journey to founding Advocacy for the Protection of the Reproductive Rights of Women in Nigeria was born from my own deeply personal experiences with reproductive health. In 2019, I lost my first child in a stillbirth, which was caused by gross medical negligence. Despite being induced, there were no medical professionals to monitor the progression of my labor, and after twelve hours of intense pain, I faced the devastating loss of my child. The lack of care and attention led me to question the reliability of the healthcare system.
Sadly, in 2022, I experienced another lossโa uterine rupture during my second pregnancy, which almost claimed my life. It was these harrowing experiences that ignited my resolve to make a difference for women facing similar, and often worse, challenges. I began to ask myself: If I, with my relative access to healthcare, could go through such suffering, what about women in rural areas? What are their realities, and how do they cope with a system that seems to ignore their needs?

On the 13th of August, my team and I conducted an outreach at Okpanku MDGs in Ndiegu Okpoitumo, Abakaliki LGA of Ebonyi State. The journey from Abakaliki Urban was long, underscoring the rural location’s remoteness. Our visit followed an interview with the Officer in Charge (OIC), Mrs. Eucheria Ogodo, as we sought to deepen our understanding of the underlying factors preventing the full realization of reproductive rights for women in rural areas.
